With the founding of the Commercial Academy in 1898, today's University of St. Gallen, the foundation was laid for an internationally recognized management mindset.

The development of the St. Gallen management approach

Prof. Dr. Hans Ulrich recognized the importance of integrated, holistic management early on. His St. Gallen Management Model, developed in 1968, offered a new framework for managing corporate complexity and emphasized the role of companies as dynamic social systems. His successor, Prof. Knut Bleicher, expanded on this approach with the concept of Integrated Management, thus offering a structured framework for strategic and operational action within companies.

The further development and dissemination

The Knowledge Navigator developed by Christian Abegglen made the model more practical and enabled direct application in companies. This open dissemination of the St. Gallen management approach led to the creation of a unique "Management Valley." In addition to the University of St. Gallen, numerous independent business schools, universities of applied sciences, and consulting firms are now part of this network, putting this knowledge into practice worldwide.
